4/25/18 Avicii (Tim Bergling)

While the world mourned the death and funeral of Mrs Barbara Bush over the weekend, and celebrated 420 Day (the stoner equivalent of Christmas), a pioneer in EDM and Electro died on Friday. While not everyone may remember his name, there is a good chance you've heard some of his music. His 2013 hits "Wake Me Up" and "Hey Brother" became popular throughout the first half of this decade. I remember hearing Avicii on the radio for the first time in middle school around 2013. At the time, Avicii was one of the biggest names in pop along with the likes of One Republic, Calvin Harris, and Pharrel Williams.

   A DJ from Sweden, Avicii rose to prominence after his debut studio album True in 2013, which saw EDM tracks overtaking the Billboard Top 40. His collaborations with artist David Guetta also helped greatly boost his publicity.

According to his website, Bergling retired from doing live performances due to his failing health in 2016. He states "Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it. But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio. The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new. Hope you´ll enjoy it as much as I do.”

Bergling passed away on April 20th due to complications of acute pancreatitis from excessive drinking. He was 28 years old.

Today is Valentine's Day, but this is not about that... I've recently heard this song by a relatively new rapper by the name of Tom MacDonald. I've also heard the cries of so many people on the internet labelling this song as "white guilt", "racist", and "cultural appropriation". To be perfectly honest, I love this song. Everybody wants to sh*t on Tom MacDonald because he's telling the truth. God forbid a white man be able to discuss race in 2018. I think the real reason everybody feels the need to hate on this song is because it takes on a subject that nobody thinks any white person should talk about. This wekend, our scout troop went on a camping trip up to Perdenales Falls, TX- up near Austin. From Houston, the trip took a total of 5 hours. Yet, it hadn't dawned on me until we got to the church to pack up that I had no means of music other than what was on my phone. The radio worked, but the scoutmaster Mr Carroll has a knack for changing stations in the middle of a song. But, it was his truck, his rules. I realized, had I of downloaded Spotify or Pandora, I wouldn't have been stuck listening to John's god-awful mumble rap the entire way there. (Or at least until I was able to get a signal at a Whataburger in La Grange.) So, I have taken up the liberty of providing y'all with a light driving and road trip playlist, so as you might not be stuck listening to Fetty Wap and Migos for hours on end. 2/12/18 Team USA's Playlist

Alex Deibold, 31, has some unfinished business at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The 31-year-old snowboarder, who first hopped on skis when he was just 2 years old and started snowboarding at age 4, nearly made Team USA in 2010, only to just miss the cut. But, undeterred, he stormed back four years later at the 2014 games in Sochi, where he took home a bronze medal in the men's snowboardcross event. Since then, he's been training as hard as he can to land on the medal stand again -- that is, when he's not mountain biking, backpacking, rock climbing, surfing or working at the Sports Garage bike shop in Boulder, Colorado, in the off-season.
